How do I submit my assignment?

For standard reading and video assignments in Perusall, there is no "submit" button. Once you press Enter/Return to post a comment, it is automatically saved and tracked toward your score. However, if your assignment is a Quiz, you will use specific Save and Submit buttons to manage your responses.

To track your progress in an assignment, check the Assignment information tab indicated by the lightning bolt icon. Once within the assignment information tab, there is a variety of helpful information you may see depending on your instructor's preferences and settings. Possible student-facing features include:

• The assignment deadline
• Assignment instructions
• Assignment learning objectives
• An AI Assessment Scale level (AIAS), which gives you insight into how AI can be used in relation to your assignment, ranging from not at all to full collaboration. 
• Paige, our little bookworm, who tells you how many comments or replies you've posted, how many responses or upvotes your comments have received, as well as a checklist of all requirements to complete your assignment.

To ensure your work is accurately recorded, always enter your reading through the Assignments tab and or by clicking assignment link from within your LMS (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, D2L...).

Pro Tip: Research shows that you’ll learn more if you come back to the assignment a few times to participate in discussions. Instead of doing everything in one go, try returning later to ask more questions or add new comments. It helps reinforce what you're learning and keeps the conversation alive!

Submitting answers to a quiz

When taking a quiz in Perusall, all questions are displayed on one scrolling page. At the bottom of the assignment, you will see two main options:

1. Save my work: Saves your progress so you can leave the page and return later to edit your responses before the deadline. 

   Unsaved changes will not automatically submit, so always click Save my work before leaving.

2. Submit my responses: Finalizes and submits your answers. A confirmation prompt will ask you to confirm before locking your responses.

What to expect after submitting a quiz

• Unanswered questions: You can select Submit my responses even if you haven’t answered every question. After you confirm, submitted answers cannot be changed. You can return to unanswered questions before your deadline, including any extension—or afterward if your course allows late responses.
• Immediate feedback: If your instructor enables immediate feedback, submitting shows whether your graded answers are correct. You may also see the correct answer and an explanation. Questions that need grading may not show feedback right away.
• Feedback later: If immediate feedback is off, submitted answers still cannot be changed. In courses that enforce deadlines, answer feedback appears after your deadline has passed and your instructor has released grades. If deadlines are not enforced, feedback on submitted answers appears when grades are released. Check My grades for your assignment score once it has been calculated and released.
• Once you submit all your responses, both the Save my work and Submit my responses buttons disappear. If your course enforces deadlines, they also disappear after your deadline, and you can no longer answer questions or edit saved responses.
• Forgot to submit? As long as you click Save my work, your recorded answers will count as "submitted" once the deadline passes.
