Perusall gives you flexibility in deciding whether—and how—to use grading and learning analytics in your course. You can change these settings at any time.
You can choose from four analytics and grading options, all available under Settings > Scoring> Basics> Scoring and analytics:
-
The default option of Automatic grading and engagement analytics automatically scores assignments based on the criteria you select, and provides analytics about student engagement.
If enabled, you'll be able to create custom scoring templates and rubrics under Settings > Scoring > Scoring Templates (or Rubrics).
Perusall allows you to weight different categories of engagement. You can choose a preset that emphasizes what matters most for your course goals or create a custom weighting scheme.
Weights can total more than 100%, giving students multiple ways to earn full credit. Because most instructors prefer Perusall to remain a low-stakes part of the course grade, we recommend keeping scoring lenient by setting weights well above 100%.
- If you prefer to grade manually but want access to engagement analytics, select Manual grading and engagement analytics.
- If you do not plan to use Perusall for grading at all but still want access to analytics, disable grading entirely by selecting Disable grading, but provide engagement analytics.
- If you do not want to have any learning analytics available in your course, select Disable all analytics.
