When will I see grades?

  • Updated

In Perusall, grades are recalculated in real-time as students submit and update their work. To view these grades, click on the Gradebook button in the left-hand panel or select the Grade assignment.

Releasing scores to students

By default, courses are set to release scores manually, allowing instructors to review/edit grades prior to release. Set an automatic grade release policy: Go to Settings > Scoring > Basics > Release scores to students and choose one of the following options:

  • Only after instructor manually releases them in the Gradebook.
  • After the assignment deadline has passed, including any late comment period or post-deadline reply window.
  • After the assignment deadline has passed, but before any late comment period or post-deadline reply window.
  • Immediately, as the student submits work.

How students view their scores

Once scores are released, students can click My Scores to see their overall score. By clicking the three dots next to an assignment and selecting View my progress, they can see a detailed score breakdown.

If grades are recomputed after release due to additional student activity, you'll be prompted to release the updated grades again.

If your course is integrated with a Learning Management System (LMS), grades will only sync after they have been released in Perusall.

While viewing an assignment, students can click the Assignment Information tab (the thunderbolt icon) to see its specific comment requirements and any other instructor instructions.

Average or Total Score

When reviewing scores in your Gradebook, you'll see a summary column displaying either the Average or Total Score (cumulative) for each student across all assignments. This summary reflects only the assignments that have both passed their submission deadlines and had scores released to students.

To choose your Gradebook summary column view, navigate to Settings > Scoring >Basics
