Who can access my Perusall course?

  • Updated

Perusall offers three levels of access to our users:

1. Student

  • Students enroll in a course in two ways:

    • If your instructor has integrated Perusall with your learning management system (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, Desire2Learn), no enrollment is needed. Simply click on the appropriate Perusall assignment links within your LMS.  Otherwise,

      • To login to Perusall, type perusall.com into the address bar in your browser, and click Login.

      • Create an account using your email address and password, or log in with your Facebook, Twitter, or Google accounts.

      • The onboarding process will prompt you for a course code from your instructor.

2. Teaching Assistant (TAs)

  • TAs can view conversations across all groups and their contributions to discussions will be highlighted similarly to instructors, but they do not automatically have access to grades or to edit course or assignment settings.  TAs will not appear in the gradebook or course roster.

  • To invite a TA to your course, go to Settings > Access >  Teaching Assistants.

  • Instructors can choose to show their TAs within the gradebook and analytics reports via Settings > Access > Teaching assistants > check "Show teaching assistants in Gradebook and Analytics reports" in order to view their overall scores/statistics.

    • Note: If you choose to enable this feature, TAs will no longer get free access to course materials (i.e. textbooks).

  • To remove a TA from your course, go to Settings > Access > Teaching Assistants, and unenroll them by clicking the red trash can on the right.

NOTE: If you'd like your TA to have more capabilities within the course, you'll want to invite them as an instructor.

3. Instructor

  • Instructors receive full access to the course, including all student data.

  • To invite another instructor to your course, go to Settings > Access > Instructors > Instructors with course access.Screen_Shot_2022-09-08_at_12.51.48_PM.png

  • To remove an Invited Instructor from your course, go to Settings > Access > Instructors, and unenroll them by clicking the red trash can on the right.

  • An instructor can also leave a course by going to Settings > Access > and clicking "Leave course."
