There is no Settings so I cannot go to General.

Hi Paul -- you should be able to find Settings on the left-hand navigation panel when you are inside your course. Drop our Support Desk a note at support@perusall.com if you continue to run into trouble.

I appear to have created a student profile unwittingly. I would like to create a "reading club" to try out the tools before using in the classroom. I have created the book club, but I would like to import a PDF article for collaborative review with colleagues. Is this possible? All I see is book purchase.

Also, I do not have the option to create a course, only log onto one. Do I need to cancel my account and start over?

I have one of the same questions as Cathy: I would like to create a reading club to explore the interface with my colleagues, but I don't see an option to do that using a PDF that I upload myself. Is it really true that we can't create reading clubs unless we purchase books through Perusall? That seems odd, since one of the reasons I want to create the club in the first place, is to persuade my colleagues to consider integrating the app into their Canvas courses – where they (or rather their students) might potentially purchase books through Perusall.

To create a space for collaboration on your own uploaded materials, you can create a course in Perusall. (A club in Perusall can only be used with a book, but there is no cost to create a course in Perusall and use it with colleagues and students, whether or not you use a book.)
