Differentiated assignments let instructors assign varied content to students within a single assignment and gradebook column, (which can sync with your LMS).
They override course grouping settings, allowing students to view all conversations from peers assigned the same content.
Set up
Go to the Assignments tab, click the dropdown next to Add assignment, and select Add differentiated assignment.
- Under Basics, enter an assignment name, select your scoring template, and submission deadline.
-
Under Content, assign documents to either specific students or student groups. (Note: Assigning to a group is a shortcut to select those students; it does not enforce normal Perusall group restrictions. Students will see comments from all other peers assigned to the same content.) You can also click Randomize Assignments to distribute content randomly.
- Set preferences in Options and Scoring, then click OK.e

Instructor view
In the assignments tab, instructors will see one assignment, with each content and its assignees listed. All of the grades for these assignments will show up under a single gradebook column.
To view the assignment, click Open, and in Assignment Information, using the dropdown, select a student to view the content assigned to them, along with the comments from all other students assigned to the same content. (Selecting another student assigned to the same content will give you the same view.)
Student view
Students will only see the content they were assigned (see example below).
